Your Questions About Baby Teething Age

Jenny asks…

What is the earliest age a baby can start teething?

I know I must be crazy but I think Colten is starting to teeth or getting ready to but he is only almost 9 weeks old. He is drooling A LOT, chewing his fist and being a little fussy. I’m just wondering if it’s possible he could be starting to teeth this early? He is already kind of advanced so maybe this will be early also? His pediatrician already saw him roll from belly to back and his pediatrician said he wouldn’t be surprised if he was crawling by 3 months since he can already get on his knees and *almost* on his arms.

sophie answers:

Babies drool, babies chew on their hands and put EVERYTHING in their mouths.. That’s just what babies do.. It does NOT mean they’re teething.

When my son has been teething he doesn’t sleep as well, he doesn’t nurse as often and he’s cranky during the day.. Doesn’t drool more than usual and doesn’t put his hands in his mouth more than usual.

He got his 1st tooth when he was 8mo and by the time he was 9mo he had 4 teeth. I wouldn’t worry about teething just yet, the fact that he is advanced doesn’t mean he will get his teeth early too :)

Good Luck!!

Oh but to answer your question, some babies are born with teeth! So it is possible.. But highly unlikely

Mary asks…

What is the earliest age my baby will start teething?

My son is 3 months 2 weeks old. I noticed he was drooling a lot. So I looked in his mouth and I swear I see a little piece of white on his gum line. I can’t feel anything sharp. Could he be getting teeth so early???

sophie answers:

Yep, it’s absolutely normal. Like mentioned earlier, some babies are born with teeth. They’re actually called milk teeth. One of my sons and one of my daughters both cut their first teeth at 3 months. My 1 yr old now has 10 teeth. If your baby has been drooling a lot he probably is starting to cut teeth.

Michael asks…

At what age did your baby start teething?

sophie answers:

The journey starts in the womb. While you were pregnant, your baby developed tooth buds, the foundation for baby teeth (also called milk teeth). Only one in 2,000 babies is born with teeth, though. The vast majority sprout their first tooth between 4 and 7 months of age.

If your baby’s an early developer, you may see his first white cap (usually one of the bottom middle teeth) as early as 3 months. If he’s a late bloomer you may have to wait until he’s a year old or more. The last teeth to appear (the second molars, found in the very back of the mouth on the top and bottom) have usually begun coming into place by your baby’s second birthday. By age 3, your child should have a full set of 20 baby teeth.

Charles asks…

At what age does a baby start teething?

sophie answers:

My children started at around 3 months. Every child is different. You will learn the symptoms. Drooling and loose stools are some of them. :)
Some of these answers are confusing me, teething usually starts before the teeth come in though.

Daniel asks…
