Frozen Waffles – The Savior to Mothers of Teething Children

When your child is teething, it is very difficult for you to watch your happy baby be completely uncomfortable and inconsolable. You want to help your child feel better, but your baby is not able to tell you how to lessen the pain. Your child will seemingly put anything and everything into his mouth to help reduce his discomfort.

Drooling is another aspect of the teething phase. Who knew that a baby could produce that much saliva! You read books, watch programs, join parenting groups, yet nothing prepares you for the precious sight of your child drooling like a Saint Bernard.

Initially, you find the drooling endearing and can tolerate the crying but you will get to the point one day when you are at the end of your rope wondering “What can I do about this?” There are many products on the market that are adequate, but one of the best means of addressing both issues, the drooling and the teething, are frozen waffles. In the past, women would give their children overcooked pieces of bread to chew on. It is the exact same concept.

A teething child can gnaw on a frozen waffle for a good amount of time and it is soft enough that it does not cause any damage to the delicate gums, it is predisposed to catch the drool that seems to flow from their little mouths like a spigot left on high, and most importantly it is firm enough to scratch the itch that causes teething babies to become so irritable.

Always closely supervise your child when you give then something of this nature. You want to ensure that the waffle does not break and that it is replaced before it becomes too soft. Children familiar with finger foods are best suited for this method. If your child has not started on solid foods he will not be able to grasp the concept. This is a safe thing to do if your toddler is used to holding food items such as a teething cookie and taking small bites.

A light finger massage of the gums is an effective way to sooth a teething child at bedtime. It is good practice to make sure your hands are washed before you use your finger to lightly rub over the gums to massage them. Now, while this is not practical to do all the time it is a wonderful before bedtime moment that increases the bond between you and your child and helps them to get to sleep a little easier.

No one said that parenting was going to be easy or clean and the teething process is different for every child. The best approach is to find what works best for your child. At the end of the day, all we want is for our children to be happy, healthy, and productive.
