Your Questions About Baby Teething Tablets

John asks…

Are the baby teething tablets or drops safe?

I was going to try some on my 9 month old, but the pharmacist at meijers wasn’t sure how safe they were because they weren’t fda approved and were more of a homeopathic remedy. Has anyone heard anything bad about them before I make a call to the pediatrician tomorrow?

sophie answers:

My doc said to stay away from homeopathic remedies because those types of meds are not regulated by the FDA, and low quality herbals can be used without anyone knowing. You never really know what type of quality you’re getting. Also, just because something is labeled “all natural”, doesn’t mean it’s safe to give. I would call your doc tomorrow and ask what he recommends.

My doc said don’t give anything unless he’s in pain and other methods don’t work (ie cold cloth, teething ring, etc), and then he said to use ibuprofin (baby motrin), as it has both pain killing and anti-inflamitory properties. He said tylenol was ok, too, but he recommended the motrin more highly.

I wish you the best!

Steven asks…

should i feel bad for giving my baby teething tablets?

my 6 month old is teething or having major tummy problems and i don’t know which, i tried teething tablets and they’re all natural and just calm down the baby when she’s cranky and restless and agitated, i don’t want to give them to her really often but the directions say every 2-3 hours as needed, so is that ok? i just feel bad for knocking her out every time she’s fussy, but this is a kind of fussy that is almost out of control
YES OF COURSE I TALKED TO MY DOCTOR 1ST
they are hylands homeopathic teething tablets

sophie answers:

No,feel no guilt here, teething hurts! You gave your baby the medicine she needed. She was cranky because she was in pain.Would you be a better mother if you left her with the pain? No you wouldn’t,I understand you worrying about giving her unnecessary medication, but the reason you are supposed to dose every 2-3 hours is to keep on top of the pain, not to knock your baby out.Obviously you will need to be careful not to let it become a habit to give your baby medicine every time she opens her mouth, but really, you sound like you have your daughter’s best interests at heart.Give her the medicine if she needs it. Did you do natural childbirth, should she do natural teething!

Mark asks…

Is it ok to give your baby who is teething, infant tylenol and teething tablets?

My baby is so fussy and I am guessing it is because she is teething. She has a fever (which comes and goes)and a runny nose. I have been giving her infant tylenol and teething tablets. I just want to make sure it is safe to give her both at the same time. Nothing seems to be helping her though.

sophie answers:

Absolutely! I also used Motrin and Orajel. Don’t do Motrin and Tylenol at the same time but my doc always said to alternate them to keep fever down.

Thomas asks…

Have you ever used your baby’s teething tablets on your wisdom teeth when you are cutting them?

I am having a hard time with my wisdom teeth coming in and put some of my son’s hyland’s teething tablets on them and it really helped with the pain. Have you ever used them?

sophie answers:

No but thanks for the idea im gonna give some to my husband and see if it works for him!!!

Sandra asks…

Is it ok to give a puppy baby teething tablets? what if they are all natural?

is there anything i can do for her

sophie answers:

No – this all natural thing drives me nuts!! Remember that nicotine, arsenic and hemlock are ‘all natural’ too.

Give her a raw meaty bone – this will massage those sore gums and clean the new teeth. You could even try a frozen one – my dogs always liked them when teething.
